Spend a full day at Skansen, Stockholm’s historic open-air museum, where old homes, farmsteads, workshops, Nordic animals, restaurants, and seasonal events bring Swedish life from the 16th century to the early 1900s into view. The grounds are large and hilly, so wear good shoes and allow more than two hours.

Use one digital pass for 1 to 5 consecutive days of Stockholm sightseeing. Visit the Vasa Museum, Royal Palace, Skansen, Viking Museum, Fotografiska, and more, then add archipelago cruises, hop-on hop-off buses, or a Royal Canal Tour. Reservations are needed for some popular attractions, and the pass works best when you start early.

Enter Tromsø’s yellow city-center cathedral for a punctual 11 PM concert of Sami music, Norwegian folk tunes, psalms, and classical pieces. A vocalist and two musicians perform a changing program in the church’s warm acoustics. The lineup and instruments can vary, but the intimate format remains the same.

Use a 24 or 48-hour Oslo sightseeing bus pass to reach Vigeland Sculpture Park, Bygdøy museums, Akershus Fortress, and the Opera House. You get an audio guide in nine languages, free headphones, Wi-Fi, and museum discounts. The bus usually comes every 30 minutes, though waits can sometimes be longer.

Choose a 24- to 120-hour digital Copenhagen Card for free admission to 80+ attractions and unlimited public transport across the Copenhagen region. Use it at palaces, museums, Tivoli Gardens, canal tours, castles, and selected sites outside the city. The card is activated in the Copenhagen Card app and includes a city map.

Visit Oslo’s Kon-Tiki Museum independently and see the original balsawood raft from Thor Heyerdahl’s 1947 Pacific crossing. Exhibits cover Kon-Tiki, Ra, Tigris, Easter Island, Galapagos, and more. Allow one to two hours, and try to arrive by noon for the original expedition film.

Spend a self-paced day at Copenhagen’s Home of Carlsberg, where the story begins in 1847. See old brewery rooms, interactive brewing displays, a 22,000-bottle collection, sculpture garden, stables, and historic architecture. Your ticket includes one beer or soft drink, with optional tastings and guided tours available on site.

The staff at the beginning of the exhibition tour is friendly and hilarious, making our trip enjoyable even before we got started. At Stortorget in Gamla Stan, learn how Nobel Prizes began and meet scientists, writers, and peace campaigners through more than 200 artifacts, films, audio stories, and daily English or Swedish tours. Allow one to two hours, or longer if you read everything. The museum is wheelchair accessible.

At Copenhagen’s National Museum, use your entry ticket to explore 14,000 years of Danish and world history at your own pace. See Stone Age and Bronze Age objects, Viking treasures, Danish exploration displays, and special exhibitions such as Viking Sorceress. Allow at least three hours, and longer if you want to read the displays carefully.

Take the round-trip Ulriken Cable Car from Haukelandsbakken 40 to Bergen’s highest mountain. The five-minute gondola ride leads to open viewpoints, marked trails, a café, restaurant, summer zipline, and views across the city, fjords, and surrounding peaks. The ticket is valid for 30 days, so you can choose a clear-weather day.

Spend about an hour exploring more than 70 interactive illusions at Paradox Museum Oslo. Follow the one-way route, read the English or Norwegian explanations, and use marked photo points to create clever pictures. The museum is wheelchair accessible, close to Nationaltheatret and Stortinget, and includes access to its boutique.
“There was meant to be staff around to help with photos and to explain what was going on as we were a bit confused by some exhibits at the start until we got the hang of it, however there werent. We still had a good time though.”
Visit Avicii Experience at Sergelgatan 2 in central Stockholm for an interactive look at Tim Bergling’s life, music, and creative process. Use the audio guide, try music-making displays, revisit his childhood influences, and encounter unreleased material. Allow up to 2.5 hours if you want time for the hands-on exhibits.

Spend a full day at Copenhagen Zoo, where you can see more than 4,000 animals from around the world. Highlights include the panda house, Norman Foster’s elephant house, polar bears, giraffes, reptiles, birds, and the Tropical House. Feeding talks, workshops, a children’s farm area, cafés, and indoor exhibits make it a useful choice in any season.

Visit Fotografiska at Stadsgården for changing photography and visual art exhibitions spread across 2,500 square meters. Your one-day admission also gives you time to enjoy the top-floor restaurant, bay views, and gift shop. There is no guide or guided tour included, so you set your own pace.

Spend a flexible day at Polaria, Tromsø’s Arctic Experience Center. See two bearded seals and three harbor seals, watch feeding and training at 10:30, 12:30, or 15:30, explore climate exhibits, and watch films about Svalbard, the Northern Lights, and life behind the scenes.
“Polaria was a beautiful experience for our last day in Tromsø! It was snowing quite a lot outside so we were thankful to be in a closed space. The seal feeding show is the absolute highlight, don’t miss it!!! We also really enjoyed seeing jellyfish, starfish, cod (and more). The panoramic theatre was a really nice bonus: we watched the northern lights and the Svalbard presentations and they were lovely. You can probably see everything in this museum in around 2h, which is the amount of time we spent there. Definitely worth a visit!”
